Microsoft’s IPTV business has been bought by Ericsson

Recently a business deal has been struct between telecom giant equipment maker Ericsson & world’s largest software Corp. Microsoft regarding IPTV Mediaroom to provide television facilities in handset via.internet.

If the deal really happens then Ericsson will become the prime global leader in IPTV markets.

As per news the deal will close in the second quarter of 2013 & company is not yet revealing the price of this deal. Already worldwide more than 400 employees working in Mediaroom located at Mountain View, California.

Again Ericsson predicted that the IPTV subscribers will hit 76 million subscribers by 2013 & 105 million subscribers in 2015.

The technology via which different types of multimedia contents can be transmitted over telecom & cable networks through internet can be regarded as IPTV. The main moto of Ericsson is to supply mobile companies this new technology so that the mobile firm can compete with cable, satellite and web-based media providers.

Ericsson Senior Vice President and Head of Business Unit Support Solutions Per Borgklint commented that ”This acquisition contributes to a leading position for Ericsson with more than 40 customers, serving over 11 million subscriber households.”

Samsung’s US Patent Case may be get won by Ericsson

There was a dispute arose betweem Swedish Telecom gear maker Ericsson & Samsung another electronics based korean firm who has filed a counter petition in U.S. court.

In the recent years legal battle has been fought between several technology based firms where cut throat competitions has been prevailed like Apple has sought to get its market share & to re-occupy billions of dollars investment in research & development wings.

Actually the reason behind Samsung was put to justice as on different cases company has failed to sign license agreements on the technological backgrounds used on behalf of Ericsson.

 As per Samsung commented Ericsson has overcharged them, so Samsung has filed a petition in the district court of Texas.

Ericsson was alleged by Samsung on the terms of breaking the patent rights of technology where Ericsson’s base assumes to be the strongest & Samsung is gradually expanding its network.

Samsung’s Court Document stated that “Ericsson seeks to extract a usurious ransom that dwarfs the amounts paid by Samsung in two prior agreements (with Ericsson) as well as the payments made by any other Ericsson licensee,”

Ericsson was alleged on behalf of infringing its network technology patents as per Samsung commented.

In 2012 6.6 billion is the patent revenue arosed from Swedish Company’s end which up from last year 2011 i.e. 6.2 billion & 4.6 billion in 2010. 225 billion was the total revenues arosed from Ericsson’s whole business last year.

Chris Houghton currently Ericsson’s new head of pan-india region

 Ericsson  the Swedish telco equipment maker has appointed a new head for India, his name is Chris Houghton.

As per company’s statement Mr. Houghton will directly report to Asia-Pacific Senior Vice President Mats H Olsson.

 There were different designations attached with Mr. Houghton appointment as a Head of Customer Unit UK and Ireland and Managing Director Ericsson UK will be put to effect from June 2013.

 Already Mr. Hughton who has worked for twenty-five years after heading to the UK from Japan, Sweden & Hungary.

Hans Vestberg, Ericsson President and CEO “Together with the team in India he (Houghton) will work to extend our footprint in the region and assisting our customers in their work to capture value in a rapidly transforming telecoms market.”

1 Billion USD Contract Signed by Ericsson from RCom to manage services in North & Western India

Ericsson has signed a 8 years full managed service aggreement with Reliance Communication of 1 Billion USD to operate wireline & wireless networks in North & Western India.

The contract only states that Ericsson will take care of day to day field operations,maintenance & network planning of Reliance Communication GSM, CDMA & WCDMA mobile networks. Actually to meet the world’s most dynamic telecom markets, the demand for customer is evolving rapidly to access the communication applications.

Ericsson will cover 11 telecom circles including telco infra & expanding 100,000 km of fiber routes. So, RCom Infra covers around  24,000 towns and 600,000 villages in India where company will deploy services like voice, data and video. Some operations like Fiber, Tower Operations, Wireless Networks and Wireline Access networks will be streanlined by RCom by Ericsson to serve RCom’s wireless division & Global Enterprise Business product line.

To carry out the operational efficiency by maintaining cost & through consolidation company new tools, best procedures & practices.

Etisalat tie up with Ericsson for 4G network deployment towards Egypt

Etisalat one of the largest telco opertor in Middle-East has announced to deploy LTE network with the help of its new partner named ” Ericsson”. As per agreement Ericsson will provides its mult-standard base station named as RBS 6000 for carrying out the implementation of 4G network.

As per Ericsson this kind of base station is actually good for environmental condition together with operting expenses providing ultra fast mobile broadband services.

Ericsson & Huawei awarded $256m contract by telco operator Mobily

Recently huge contract given to Ericsson & Huawei by Saudi Arabian telecommunications provider Etihad Etisalat (Mobily) to expand 3G & 4G networks which worth around 256 million dollar.

To strengthen the data services, Mobily one of the second largest operator is expanding its network where some analysts think there is more room for profit growth.

Already in the kingdom Mobily networks covers 96 percent of the total population.As well as expanding the networks will the help of common lives.

Mobily told in a report that Swedish telecom company Ericsson signed a contract for SR563 million and China’s Huawei signed one for SR400 million.

CEO Khalid Al-Kaf said in a statement within a year the 3G as well as 4G network project will expand. The up gradation will be completed on first half of the year.

Though LTE was developed to carry data rather voice & works on double speed as compared to 3G.But reason behind its slow growth is the lack of use LTE-enabled handsets.

As per Reuter’s  Mobily’s average gross profit to grow by 5.1 percent to SR1.78 billion ($465 million). — SG.

1,550 jobs cut by Ericsson in Sweden

Ericsson will cut 1,550 positions from its main center in Sweden to drive down the cost suffer by the company globally.

Since the number of new devices rapidly increasing & the profit in Ericsson’s core department has dropped up to 42% due to the slower orders from the operators end. The company also said that the world now concentrates on cost cuts.

Almost 1,550 staffs may lie off from 17,768 currently employed as per company’s statement.

SOFTBANK MOBILE signs LTE agreement with Ericsson in Japan

Today’s closing follows the announcement on February 21, 2012 that Ericsson had entered into an agreement to acquire 100 percent of the shares in BelAir Networks.

“We are gaining BelAir Networks’ leading position in carrier-grade Wi-Fi equipment both in terms of installed base and product portfolio. By integrating BelAir Networks’ talented people and these new assets into Ericsson’s mobile infrastructure leadership, we will accelerate the integration of Wi-Fi and cellular technologies and strengthen our heterogeneous network (hetnet) offering,” said Johan Wibergh, Executive Vice President and head of business unit Networks, Ericsson.

The former BelAir Networks’ staff will be integrated into the Ericsson group in business unit Networks over the coming months and will work under the Ericsson brand effective today.
