Call rates go up 100%, recommend telecom operators

Telephone tariffs will rise up to 100 percent striking consumers hard if the government believe the segment regulator’s proposal on range sale, service contributor inform Thursday.

Call rates go up 100%, recommend telecom operators

“Our faith is that the allusion might be as high as 100 percent of the presented rates to be remunerated by the consumers. This would differ circle to circle and doesn’t take into account any spectrum re-farming, which would essentially push prices even further,” said Sanjay Kapoor, Airtel chief executive officer.

Briefing the media a day after their bosses met key ministers and top officials to quarrel their case beside the regulator’s suggestion, operational heads of the companies period the advice as flawed and conservative.

“The TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) advice is damaged and retrograde, regressive and doubtful, which will damage customer attention, and will ring the death knell for the Indian telecom industry,” Kapoor said.

The operators required a severe decrease in the preserve price of spectrum, rejection of advice on re-farming, auction all spectrums obtainable and do away with rollout requirement for auctioned spectrum from the government.

They also said that an artificial scarcity of spectrum was being fashioned by auctioning only a imperfect amount of spectrum is being auctioned which will push up the auction prices.

“The premise is the Supreme Court order, which say that licenses are quash, and fresh licenses require to be given through an auction. At the most, one new player will be capable to approach in at these prices. This will blow tariffs, the roll-out obligations will impact, on top of this,” he added.

TRAI has suggested, amid other proposals, a preserve price of Rs.3,622 crore for 1 MHz pan-India spectrum, which is around 10 times higher than the price at which 2G licenses were allocated in 2008 under former Telecom Minister A. Raja.
